Our Earth Adventure 8 Day South Australian Experience takes you to the magnificent Flinders Ranges, about five hours north of the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide. The Flinders Ranges is an Australia icon that attracts many international and local visitors every year.

Estimated to be over 600 million years old, ‘The Flinders’ has a long Indigenous cultural heritage with the iconic red-ochre land being used by the local Adnyamathanha people for both medicinal and sacred purposes. Throughout the ranges you will see rock paintings, carvings and other sacred sites which have been around for thousands of years.

With wildlife including emus, kangaroos and yellow-footed rock wallabies roaming freely throughout the ranges, you are bound to stumble across several of them during your travels.

During you journey, you will visit several of these historic and cultural sites as well as experiencing several days of adventure. You will experience a day of abseiling down a 60m rock face at one of South Australia’s top climbing spots, spend a night sleeping in the unique Wilpena Pound, the heart of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, as well as mountain biking around the outside of ‘the Pound’ which will provide you with views that will never be forgotten.

You will get a true Australian camping experience throughout the journey, from sleeping in tents to cooking on camp cookers, and we are sure that the memories that you will gain with stay with you forever.

All about the Flinders Ranges Adventure and Culture.

A major focus of the 8 day camp will be the immersion into the outdoors and conservation. The arranged activities reflect this with multiple educational and inspiring experiences such as conquering the great 60 metre abseil, visiting the historic indigenous art site and spending the day assisting in the preservation of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park with help from the traditional Indigenous owners of the land. You’ll leave South Australia with excellent memories,  knowledge of the South Australian Indigenous culture and a love for the outdoors.

  1. Day 1 Journey to the Outback

    After arriving in Adelaide you will begin the journey to South Australia’s magnificent Flinders Ranges. The drive will take you through the former seaport of Port Augusta where you will spend the afternoon visiting the local Wadlata Cultural Centre to learn about the history and culture of South Australia. You will finish the day in the historic town of Quorn at the Pichi Richi Park, named after the local heritage steam railway.

  2. Day 2 Indigenous Culture

    Begin the day with drive to the natural amphitheatre that is Wilpena Pound. Upon arrival you will set up camp before spending the afternoon participating in an Aboriginal cultural immersion program. During this session you will learn about local bush tucker, art and stories. Before dinner you will attend a Welcome to Country, a ceremony to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land.

  3. Day 3 Adventure Day

    Today begins with adventure where you can conquer your fears on a 60 metre abseil at one of Australia’s best climbing locations, Moonarie. Upon completion of the abseiling session you will visit Arkaroo Rock, an Indigenous art site estimated to be over 5000 years old.

  4. Day 4 Overnight Journey

    This is where you begin your overnight expedition component of the journey. You will walk into the unique Wilpena Pound via Tanderra Saddle and finish the day at Cooinda, a campsite in the middle of Wilpena Pound. Tonight you will cook your own dinner on our Trangia cookers, giving you the real outback experience.

  5. Day 5 Return From Expedition

    You will begin the day with your return journey out of Wilpena Pound. The afternoon will involve an introduction to mountain biking to ready you for the journey the following day. Tonight you will help prepare and cook an Aussie style BBQ for all to enjoy.

  6. Day 6 Mountain Bike Journey

    Today will be spent mountain biking the scenic trails from Wilpena Pound to Rawnsley Park Station. You will use some of the skills that you learnt on the previous day to help you navigate the terrain throughout the journey. Tonight you will be back in dormitory accommodation to rest your body after your adventurous ride.

  7. Day 7 Sheep Shearing and Geology Tour

    During the morning you will be given a sheep shearing demonstration by a shearer at Rawnsley Park Station. The afternoon involves a guided geology tour around the area where you will learn about the different rock formations and the landscape you have spent your week in.

  8. Day 8 Return Journey

    Today involves returning to Adelaide from the Flinders Ranges. Your drive will take you past Port Germain Jetty, formerly the longest in the southern hemisphere at 1.5km in length. You will enjoy a bakery lunch where you can enjoy an Aussie pie or pasty to remember Australia before you return home.
